Businesses have put forth their recommendations during the “Investment Promotion Conference for Tourism Development in Ha Nam Province,” held by Ha Nam province on the morning of October 18.
According to the Ha Nam Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the province boasts significant tourism potential. Its proximity to key attractions in the Red River Delta, such as Huong Pagoda in Hanoi, Pho Hien in Hung Yen, Tran Temple in Nam Dinh, and Bai Dinh – Trang An in Ninh Binh, enhances its appeal. Ha Nam is well-positioned to develop various forms of tourism, including eco-tourism, golf tourism, and cultural tourism. Among these, cultural tourism stands out as a significant strength, particularly in the Tam Chuc national tourist area.
In 2023, Ha Nam welcomed over 4 million visitors, generating a remarkable tourism revenue of more than 3,000 billion VND. In the first nine months of 2024 alone, the province attracted approximately 4.2 million visitors, with total tourism earnings surpassing 3,200 billion VND. These figures have significantly contributed to the socio-economic development of Ha Nam, creating momentum for the growth of various other industries.
Ha Nam’s tourism sector is steadily establishing itself as a prominent destination for travelers. In both 2023 and 2024, the province earned international recognition with the “World’s Leading Local Cultural Destination” and “Asia’s Leading Emerging Tourist Destination” awards.
Despite this progress, experts believe that the tourist influx to Ha Nam does not fully reflect its potential. The challenges stem from limited tourism infrastructure, a lack of diverse and appealing products, and insufficient human resources, which hinder Ha Nam’s ability to achieve a significant breakthrough on the Vietnamese tourism landscape.
To enhance Ha Nam’s appeal, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice President of the UNESCO Hanoi Travel Club, suggested that the tourism sector must focus on upgrading infrastructure, including hotels, restaurants, and related services, to attract more visitors, particularly international ones. He emphasized the need for Ha Nam province to implement supportive mechanisms and policies regarding infrastructure and construction, thereby drawing in investment for the tourism industry.
Echoing this sentiment, Nguyen Van Tai, Director of VietSense Travel, emphasized that to draw in tourists, Ha Nam must enhance its connections with provinces and cities within the Northern Delta region. He highlighted the importance of fostering ties with Hanoi to develop tailored tours that cater to specific visitor demographics. “By establishing these connections, Ha Nam tourism can facilitate the exchange of tourists with Hanoi and other regions,” Mr. Nguyen Van Tai stated.
For Ha Nam tourism to flourish and achieve sustainable growth, Nguyen Le Phuc, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, outlined several strategies. He suggested that the province should intensify its promotional efforts, particularly through digital platforms, and organize focused tourism marketing campaigns that align with product development and branding objectives.
In addition to implementing policies that encourage investment in tourism and infrastructure, Ha Nam must leverage its strengths by creating distinctive tourism offerings that promote environmental sustainability and preserve traditional cultural heritage. Enhancing service quality to provide memorable experiences for tourists is crucial. Furthermore, the development of smart tourism initiatives and the exploration of creative tourism models that blend cultural heritage with digital technology are essential.
In response to the suggestions from tourism stakeholders in Hanoi, Truong Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Ha Nam People’s Committee, announced plans for ongoing infrastructure development. This includes improving highway connectivity, incorporating greenery and water features along routes to enhance the aesthetic appeal and provide attractive check-in spots for tourists. The province aims to increase investment in the renovation of spiritual sites, promote agricultural tourism, and develop high-quality craft villages. Additionally, there will be a focus on attracting investors to establish premium accommodations and top-tier sports facilities, particularly golf courses.
During the conference, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between Ha Nam province, Binh Dinh province, and various corporations and businesses involved in the economic and tourism sectors, including the UNESCO Hanoi Travel Club.
