Colin Montgomerie, the well known former European Tour professional now playing great golf on the Seniors PGA Tour, was the first named course designer to open up for busisness here on the Golf Coast as it is now known. His Montgomeries Links 18 hole Par 72 , 7,079 yard course started back in 2008.
The 2012 Forbes Travel Guide rated Monty’s Links style course as one of Asia’s ten most elite courses. His design has capitalized on its close proximity to the warm tropical East Sea and the Marble Mountains, both visible from various locations along this 18 hole masterpiece.
Monty has stated, “Golf should always be a challenge, and a golfer, whether amateur or professional, must be made to achieve with every round played. Nevertheless, above all else, golf should be enjoyable, and, whether in someone’s leisure time or business time, they should leave the course challenged, but satisfied – a total experience”.
Well here is the total experience…..Monty has worked closely with the natural characteristics of the coastal site, and his course features sandy soil, wind-blown dunes and indigenous vegetation to create a true links style experience for players of all abilities.
Although Monty never officially stated if he had ever created a signature hole, the hole most talk about and remember is the par 5 12th. Playing slightly uphill to a bunker strewn fairway, this hole is actually framed by the clubhouse in the background and has been described as the best par 5 in the country. Another wonderful golfing treat ready to challenge you.
