Quang Ninh, a northern province of Vietnam is expecting 12 million visitors this year as it is going to host the country’s National Tourism Year 2018.
Director of the provincial Department of Tourism Pham Ngoc Thuy said that they are ready to welcome the visitors of which five million are expected to be foreign tourists and that it will bring in $968 million in revenue.
Around 50 activities will take place throughout the year to promote the region as an international tourism destination. The theme of the events will be “Ha Long – Heritage, Wonder, Friendly Destination”. Of the series of events are scheduled to takes place, the highlights include the opening ceremony, Carnaval Ha Long 2018, the Asia Beach Volleyball Tournament, Ha Long International Marathon 2018 and the Ha Long – Japan investment promotion conference.
A range of activities at the Hoanh Bo district will also include a national parachute contest, a King Le Thai Tho’s Temple festival, a festival of the Dao people and a Spring flower festival. The event will close in January 2019 with an event linked to the opening of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 and the Ha Long – FLC 2019 open golf tournament.
Interestingly, the National Tourism Year 2018 is coinciding with the opening of several infrastructure projects including the Van Don international airport and two new expressways. The region will also start work on new ecotourism complexes this year.
Last year, the province welcomed more than 9.87 million tourists, including 4.28 million foreigners, an increase of 18% and 23% year on year.
